Lake Hartwell - Remember those silly South Carolinians that thought they could change the name of Lake Hartwell to “Strom Thurmond Lake?” As in all matters of Georgia pride, we rejected that notion outright and told those folks to head south if they’re looking to honor one of their own. They settled on changing the name of Clarks Hill Lake but Lake Hartwell will forever be a tribute to the freedom-loving Georgian, Nancy Hart, who handled the British in a similar fashion.
